Kicks Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 I'm WTF. This video was my first exposure to ITF sparring. Very interesting: http://203.252.46.194/~osthein/ITF_TKD.wmv when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
WILLIAM Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 WOW!! Great video thanks for sharing . http://www.geocities.com/wkeith30/TKKARATE.html
Nick_UKWC Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 yeah that was good, looked like fun Why don't they punch or sweep? or is that like asking why a boxer doesn't kick lol "...or maybe you are carrying a large vicious dog in your pocket." -Scottnshelly
mattyj Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 in itf you arent allowed to go below the belt in tournament sparring so you cant sweep. in free sparring you can do whatever but its light contact so obviously your not going to kick them in the nuts or whatever. in most itf tournaments punches are allowed (including head) - possibly in that tournament they arent. Another point is that alot of experienced sparrers will become highly proficient with kicks so wont use punches as much in tournament sparring, although it is unusual that so little punching was used in that video.
Kicks Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 in most itf tournaments punches are allowed (including head) - possibly in that tournament they arent. There's some punching, or jabbing, in there. I'm thinking that maybe they respected each other's defensive kicking abilities and that they didn't want to chance getting in too close, or maybe they just couldn't because of the other's ability to cut them off with their kicks. The legs do have a longer reach than the arms. when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
The Saint Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Depends on the fighter too, there are some people at my club who you don't go toe to toe with.(Excellent boxing skills) and others that you fight that have bad hand skills. When I fight (ITF), the size of my opponent has everything to do how I fight. Shortter fighters I use distance as a tactic using sidekicks and backfists. Taller fighters I tend to crowd them and jam their kicks using hand skills and jump away kicks. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." Choi, Hong Hi ITF Founder
searcher Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 That video kicks. Thank you very much for sharing. I agree with The Saint on the reasons for punching and kicking. Everything has its place and time. Are their any more videos form that site available? "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."

KwicKixJ1 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 looked just like another sport karate match to me. i like wtf fighting better. that's my opinion. lots may disagree, but looked like a naska fight.
KwicKixJ1 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 not that naska fights are a bad thing. or sport karate fights for that matter. they're fun to watch, just not like traditional taekwondo. not aggressive and crazy enough.
