Hello, I took kung fu at a local school about four years ago, I have decided to get back into practicing martial arts. I want to finish my senior year of highschool and am looking for a good kung fu coarse book series. If someone could post a reply back and let me know details on an experienced series, I would be most gratefull.

-Thank You-

Well I personally don't think you can effectively learn MA from a book or series of books. Learning MA is an interactive thing. You can go through the motions of techniques and Kata but until a Master has looked at the way you are doing it and works with you to fix any problems, it is only half of the MA.

Just my 2 cents. :-)

I wouldn't either. Especially without some reasoning behind it.

I do agree though that you really need to get back into class. Each style has nuances that can only be learned from an instructor.

Now, books are great for expanding things you already know and for getting new ideas. They are also good for finding things like new ways of training and such.

Let's please try to keep this on topic and try and help. Style bashing is not allowed on this site. Everyone has their preference and likes and dislikes but lets keep this civil.

Thanks,

I personally feel that you are setting yourself up for failure if you want to use a series of books to learn MA. If you are really serious I would look into a school near you.

I would look into a real instrucotr, as there will be many flaws in your techniques if you try and learn from a book..but if you insist on learning from a book, at least get a video..but if you can find an instructor, get one;)
