Tang Soo Do means "Way of the open hand of Tang" Tang as in China's Tang dynasty. I think what the guy meant was the Chinese characters for Karate Do and Tang Soo Do are the same.

Kara Te Do = Tang Soo Do

 

Originally kara meant china but the founder changed it to empty.

Thanks for that info that makes a lot of sence . I took Shotokan when i frist statrted Martial Arts and Tang Soo Do and Shotokan are pretty close to each uthere ,but i guess it would very from teacher to teacher . I think every body teach's a little diff. from one anothere. :)
