Mu Ryuk
Just got back from my first Judo class. It was a lot of fun. The first hour was all exercises...warm-up and stretch, then falls, then laps of rolls and other things around the mats to keep warm. Then we moved onto technique for the second hour. We didn't work on throws tonight, all groundwork. I don't particularly like the rules, I prefer submission grappling rules, and I don't like working with a Gi much, but it is alive training, so I'm stoked. We went through 5 basic pins and 6 basic chokes. For the pins we did it like this: Instructor demonstrates Practice on unresisting partner One partner pins, other tries to escape Instructor demonstrates escape Practice escape against unresisting partner Practice escape against resisting partner For the chokes, we just did the techniques, didn't work on escaping. It was a good time, and perhaps more importantly than the training itself, I have found some new training partners, including an All American Wrestler and a former Sambo competitor from Russia. Passion transcends pain.

SevenStar
that will depend on the individual. typically, you learn falls first, and are allowed to do nothing else until you can properly fall.

Kreisi
Glad you liked it judo is fun because it's fast to learn after you have gone trhu a few basics. What hurts you but doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
