SBN Doug Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Anybody either leading or belonging to a MA club, as apposed to a full school, what types of locations do you meet in? I've been wanting to start a club, but all the local YMCAs already have a Joe Shmo karate (for kids only) in them. I don't want to try in a shopping center yet, since at $1,300 a month I probably wouldn't last long. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
dreamer38f Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 The local high school has a club...they meet in the gym. I think the official name is a karate club. If you think you can't, then you must. If you must, you will.
Chris from CT Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 Hey, Doug. If the YMCA only has classes for kids, there's no reason for you not to see about starting an adult class there. If their current instructor isn't doing one...Why not? Do it up, Bro!! Take care Chris LaCavaJung Ki Kwan of Connecticut"Man is born soft and supple,in death he is hard and rigid..." LaoTzu
ZR440 Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 Doug, Our KSW school/club meets at a small community college. You may want to ask the director of phys ed at one near you if they would consider a new class. I can also give you the contact number or email of PSBN Kelly if you want to ask him how he did it. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
SBN Doug Posted January 22, 2002 Author Posted January 22, 2002 Yeh Chris, I thought of that. But the two I've talked to about that thought didn't want to upset the other guy. ZR440, thanks for the offer. Why don't you PM it to me. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Iron Arahat Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 Doug Some suggestions are: School Gymnasiums - Elematary to H.S. College or University Campuses Recreation Centres YMCA (I guess this is not possible) Fitness Clubs Warehouse Space Ask around split your enrollement fee's with a club 50/50 or whatever in exchange for space no matter how few or how many students you get. Try getting someone to donate space, set up the club as a non-profit society. Lots of opportunity....I started our new club on an old stage to start, and after 2 years we finally got our own space. Good luck man... Martial Arts School http://www.shaolinwushu.cahttp://www.liveyyc.comCalgary Photographer: http://www.jdirom.com
