Socratic_Sifu Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Checked out the website--it is obviously professionally done--and the school itself appears to be doing well financially from the looks of it but, are you aware that level 10 is the "new" sifu level? What I mean is that level 10 is the equivalent of just getting a black belt in any other MA. Not that this is a bad thing mind you, just that you shoudl be aware that your sifu may still be learning the in's & out's of the system even though he/she obviously knows all of the techniques. That's my $0.02--I feel I must also admit that I am more than a little skeptical about really big commercial training halls and kwoons so my opinion may be a little jaded When fear is removed, the arrogance of uncertainty is dispelled and it is therefore no longer necessary to prove yourself in any form of combat. By learning how to fight, you learn how not to fight.
stonecrusher69 Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I my self love being part of a lineage, but I would never pick a school based on their lineage alone. You need to be practical and use common sence when picking a school. If all the sifu does is tell you about their linage for 2 hrs I would head for the door. http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
giang_hu Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I think lineage is somewhat important. For example, would people respect Leung Ting as much if they knew he is the lowest si dai out of the Yip Man bai-si?
