Sutiivu Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Hey guys i was wonderin what martial arts would be better for my bro, he's 11 he's short, chuncky haha and sorta strong for his age. i was wonderin which ma would be best for loosin weight and good self defence? we got shotokan karate, kickboxing, judo, and tkd. and i know that he should go with what ever he likes best but i was jw wat u guys think.
Proskater Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Depending on what kind of mental attitude he has, like does he actually want to go into combat with other people, you should choose from there. But I think karate is pretty good to lose weight and a good self defense.
pineapple Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Short, Chunky, Strong? Sounds like he's built for judo! What works works
VinnieDaChin Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 all those except tkd. id say jude and kickboxing, but it depends on the kickboxing. i hear shotokan is pretty good stuff.
solar_kid Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 i know that he should go with what ever he likes best but i was jw wat u guys think. Yep... whichever he likes enough to stick with is gonna be the best. If he likes them all, then go with Shotokan. ----Hmm. Hello. This is the floor. How did I get here?
Shorinryu Sensei Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Short, Chunky, Strong? Sounds like he's built for judo! Agreed...but, he should go with what he likes best. Most instructors will let him try a few classes for free. I let people try it for 2 weeks to get a good feel for it. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
aefibird Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Tell him to try them all and pick whichever he likes the best. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!

1kickKO Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 hmm...he does sound like a good build for judo..do ya know what he's lookin' for? Self-defense? Fun? Interest? Comp? Etc...try and find that out then let us know and we might be able to give ya a better perspective..
CloudDragon Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Gotta go with the crowd, whatever he likes best. With luck he will lean out and continue to increase strength, A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
