I've been reading that muay thai is one of the best martial arts for street fighting and i don't disagree or anything but it just seems like it would be hard to use during a fight.

i saw a fight a few weeks ago with 2 groups of 2 people fighting each other. it was like the kids were just swinging their arms wildly as fast as they could and hoping they would hit the other person... it was pretty sloppy but it still looked like it would be pretty hard to fight someone like that. what i'm wondering is if someone was coming at me like that, would i be able to get in there to knee them, elbow them, or get in the clinch (not sure if that's what it's called but it's when u kind of tangle up with them)?

I still want to go to thailand for a few months and pick up a little muay thai; it doesn't really matter if it will make me better at fighting or not but i'm just wondering.

Next to a person who stands there like a post, widely swinging people are the easiest to defeat.

To answer your question, in street fights I’ve used the Thai roundhouse kick to the legs a couple of times, the clinching straight knee once (I grab him by the hair instead of using the prumb) and lifting, horizontal, swimming elbows a bunch of times, all to good effect.

A minute of experience on the street is worth a year of training in the dojo.

If you can’t sprawl and brawl, you can’t street fight.

friend of mine is a cage fighter and has trained in thai boxing for many years now. he got sucker punched by a guy with two friends around... and he went to work on all three of them with his thai boxing skills, and he messed them up pretty good. (kicked a guy in the stomache and made him throw up too.)

To add... if you spar, you would understand what I mean. Many so called martial artists who never spar often * their pants at the sight of a street fight as they might know how to fly around and throw multiple kicks, but the street fight is a new phenoma as they have never experienced combat.
