How much should I pay for them?

Which brands are best quality?

Do I want adjustable ones?

Osu! I noticed you are from the Armstrong Dojo. A lot of good people there and great instructors.

Personally, and most fighters that I have spoken with, like the cloth type of shin guards. They are really cheap too. About $30 should get you set up.

I'm not sure what age you are, but if you are under 17 then I beleive you are required to wear shin guards in a tournament. If that is the case, just make sure that whatever shin guard you want to get is approved by the instructor first.

Century makes a good foam dip pair. I use the Century Ones and they work good

See if people at your dojo will let you try theirs on. That way you'll find out what type you like and have a rough idea of the size that you'll need. Also find out if you'll need the cloth or the dipped foam type before you buy them.

What is this dipped foam kind? We may not have it at the dojo, all I can ever remember seeing is the cloth kind.

These are the dipped-foam kind. They're usually used at kickboxing competitions, although I've seen them used at karate competitions a lot more in the last 12 months or so.

They are the catalac of shin pads, they work real good. The only complaint I have of them are they tend to slide to the side some times.

Oh, they look all nifty, but they're more expensive than the cloth kind I'd bet...

I'm telling you, cloth pads rule! :) Cheap, easy to clean, and not too bulky.

Yes, they are more expensive, but not usually too much more.

However, I find that they can be sweaty to wear. :dead:

They do give good protection, though and usually protect the shin bone better than cloth pads.
