I've never seen it spelled with the jitsu spelling before. However, I thought bujutsu was used more to describe weapon related arts?

A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.

I've only seen it spelled Bujitsu, but aren't jutsu and jitsu interchangable?

We haven't really done much weapons fighting. From what I've been told, Bujitsu just means Way of the Warrior or Warrior Like. It is really just a mix of throwing, holds, and redirectional styles to help prepare for any situation.

Hm, never heard about martial art with that name :-? . Bu-jutsu (or jitsu) is a word describing all jutsu arts like Ken-jutsu, Naginata-jutsu, Aiki-jutsu, Karate-jutsu, Ju-jutsu, Bo-jutsu etc. Later (at the start of the 20th century) the martial arts (bujutsu) became martial ways (Budo) like Judo, Kendo, Aikido, Karatedo etc.

Bujutsu means military/martial arts. Budo means military/martial ways.

It's a general term for all forms of martial arts that come from Japan, be it judo, karatedo, or iaido.

I have heard of Fudoshin, which is the art of mxing many styles

And about the Do on the end of japanese styles, I heard that in ww2 the americans banned all martial arts so the japanese changed many style names to do at the end so they would be known as a religous practices and not martial arts.

Gunyo Kogusoku is right. After talking to my sensei again, he explained that is just a general name we sometimes use. Technically, we're Goshin Budo Kai. Now has anyone heard of that? :karate:
