The point I so badly made is that a lot of people judge wushu on what they see and 90% of the time, all they see is the performance. As you mentioned, in modern wushu training, fighting is done in the form of sanshou kick-boxing. For them, fighting and performing are two separate things so in this case, they do not fight like how they perform. That's what I tried to say.

ohayo gozaimasu, o genki desu ka.

IF there was a fight between an average sport wushu practioner and an average kung fu practitioner I think I would put my money on the wushu guy because in general, wushu people train much harder then the average kung fu guy.

Wushu gives you better overall strength, agility, speed, flexibility and to an extent better endurance and higher pain tolerance.

The only thing lacking in modern wushu training is the emphasis on workable fighting techniques but I would argue that this is a lot easier to teach and learn than it is to achieve the other aspects I associated with wushu above.

Really??? Mabye there are just crappy kung fu schools in your area who don't train their students properly. Here, I'd bet the exact opposite, because I KNOW the kung fu schools in the vicinity, including mine, all produce top fighters. We have several ex-Wushu students here, and they all tell us the training here is much harder.

BTW, this is my training drills A and B

A

1. Stretches

2. Stances

3. Heavy conditioning (bang-arms, push-hands, isometrics, wooden dummy, shin conditioning, etc)

4. Shadowboxing with weights

5. Shadowboxing without weights

6. Technique drills

7. Combination drills

8. Forms

9. Full-contact sparring

10. Heavy bagwork

11. Lifting weights, 2-knuckle pushups, dumbells, all the good stuff.

12. Usually more full-contact sparring

13. More sparring

14. After several black eyes and bloody noses are recieved, the sparring stops.
