italianboi Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi im new here. A description of myslef. Well i am a 14 year old Australian quite tall around 168cm, 60 kgs and looking for a stiking martial arts that is very effictive in most self defence/ street fighting situations. Im have been looking up on the net and i have been looking at some videos and i am lyking Wing Chung Kung Fu but i am think that it is all about close range and has no kicking or anything and it might not be very practical on the street or if im being attactked. What do you think is a effective martial art for me? By the way i have never done martial arts before and but i am willing to challenge myself and i am avergely strong(if that makes any sense). P.S I have got tonnes of different martial art places so whatever you mention i will probably be able to find. Thanks
Lenny Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Krav Maga. Completely geared toward self defense. https://www.kravmaga.com
VinnieDaChin Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 for striking, its muay thai all the way. if you cant find a place like that, just box- im sure theres a boxing gym somewhere around. boxers and thai boxers are the best strikers in the world. if you want a mma, mix one of those two with wrestling or bjj or judo.
italianboi Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 I have decided that i want to take up Wing Chung. I know not many people here are from australia but the place that i might be going has a website and i just wanted to see if what people thought just by the website if is this place any good. http://www.lifestylekungfu.com/
VinnieDaChin Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 im not very impressed, though i rarely am with wing chun period.
Fu Man Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I have decided that i want to take up Wing Chung. Wing Chun is a very practical martial art. Good luck with your training.Ted
Mr Pockets Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I'd suggest boxing, or if you want to go all out, kickboxing. Grappling such as Judo or BJJ also good.
pittbullJudoka Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Hope you enjoy your ma experice.Be sure to check out the dojo before joining talk to the instructor, watch a class if they allow(if not run in imo)but if you deide to go there be open minded and train hard
