Good guide for what works when two fighters square off.

 

Too limitted (sporty) in that it doesn't address a lot of the attacks you might face on the street.

 

But this is not to be confused or construed to mean that UFC fighters can't handle themselves in these situations. Many or most have probably studied arts which include these defenses. And I wouldn't attack one of them if you gave me one free swing with a baseball bat!

The best guide to what works on the street is a fight on the street!

 

However MMA fights are the most realistic type of combat and the closest thing to a real fight in a controlled environment!

 

Many of my friends compete in MMA competition and they are most certainly capable on the street.

I agree with delta1, I would want to meet up in a dark alley with any champion/contender from UFC. Steet fights also have things like multiple people, guns knifes and other weapons, things not used in the ring. Most UFC fighters would be capable of appling their style to fight on the street if they needed to.

UFC is childs play compared to no-limits fighting.

 

I've never seen or heard of a street fight lasting 10 minutes.

The UFC and all the other's K1, NHB etc., have rules and are not realistic combat. These guys train for that ring. Although I agree I wouldn't want to meet one of them in a dark alley. Again I will have to refer you to an article on our website on Combat Efficiency. There is a big difference between a street confrontation and the ring. So no it is not a good guide.

i didn't vote as i'm not versed enough in how ufc works to judge.

add to that the fact that a lot of people who occasionally 'fight' as part of their job

say that most of their fights last a few seconds and it doesn't go to the ground.

 

kinda points to a 'no' answer to your question, doesn't it?

Exactly. These guys aren't fighting with cocaine addicts, drunks, or armed or multiple combatants, or any combination of that.

UFC is a wrestling match and has nothing to do with the street. Far too many rules that favor wrestling. Wrestling on the street = trip to the hospital. WWE wrestling is at least entertaining.

I dont see how it could not be a good guide, it might not be a complete and perfect guide due to the rules. I think that some techniques can truley be tested in these fights so right there its bringing you that much closer to what works. I also think that if you end up in a street fight with a well trained fighter who might be some what equal to you your basically going to have a similar but more brutal match as you see in the UFC etc. As you see in some of these fights anything can happen, sometimes you get all geared up for two awsome fighters meeting each other in the octagon and the next thing you know its over. I'm not trying to say that these fights are equal to street situations, it is a sport, but I do think that a lot of what you see going on in the octagon can be of great use in a street fight. The major downfall is your not always one on one when on the street and sometimes weapons or other objects are used against you so this is were other training needs to be focused on. Anyways just my opinion
