Thanks, I have never seen The Five Brothers School Style before.

nice display of hard iron whip. I do it as 'soft iron whip'.

does anyone see a WC predecessor in there or am i just seeing things?

the Five Brothers Eight Trigrams staff looks comparable to Nine Provinces and Chen Short Whip Staff. Thanks for the posts.

Ah! Mantis Grasshopper, i think you would do very nicely on a bowl of rice!

:-?

Five Brother Eight Trigram Stickplay is one of the Hung Gar Kung Fu....

And the so-called "Iron Line Fist" is, indeed, some part of Ten Animal style of Hung Gar. They are Dragon and Snake.

that 'ten animal' form keeps popping up: hsing-i, hung gar, hung fot...where will i see it next? maybe my little brother will take it upon himself to 'modernize' it....

it's not five brother,

it's brother number five....

as in "chut gee hu, luk gee wui".

most of the time, the form's name is shortern to just 'bagua kwun'

(one thing about the vid though.... why on earth are they doing lion dance drum beats? )

also, in hung gar, it isn't ten animals.

the chinese is 'sup ying' meaning ten forms/shapes;

the ten being five animals+five elements.

the hsing-yi use of ten animals is very different as has no basis on the shaolin animals,

which the hung gar form, being based on the shaolin five animals, does.

in hsing-yi, the ten animals are in reference to their inherent element and with regards to the bagua.

they (hung gar and hsing-yi animals) do not work like each other.

and um, i'm not sure about if i see anything specifically wing chun like in there.

what bit are you talking about?

there's something but i think that's more of a shaolin thing rather than a hung gar/wing chun thing.

Some of the first vid looks a very little like the start of the forms, perhaps some Bui Gi (spelling) and a little of the circling hands we see some times. I don't think I'd call it a parallel though.

Don't know about the WC pole form so can't comment on the second vid.

well, if you know how the drums work in lion dancing, then you'd know that it doesn't even fit with his movements.....

i don't mind that it's out of place but at least play them to his movements.

bah.... maybe i am too traditional after all......
