mantisboxer Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 southern and northern mantis are very difffrent systems.... Southern has alot lower kicks focuses more on power.. Northern mantis on the other hand is very fast lots of strikes alot of control techniques
Infrazael Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Although both NPM and SPM are based on the praying mantis, both are drastically different. I prefer SPM myself, but then again I'm all for Southern Shaolin, but Northern kicks aren't back either lol. Anyways, the differences. Northern is more "flashy" but not in the same way as Wushu. It has extremely practical moves and such, and is very direct in its approach. I don't know too much about it, so I can't comment. SPM, on the other hand, is very short-range oriented. The Southern Mantis Fist is used to the maximum, focusing on the destruction of various vital spots such as neck, solar plexus, ribs, etc. All kicks are power-oriented and used from the waist and below.
Noob Posted January 11, 2005 Author Posted January 11, 2005 Southern sounds much more my style..I'm also a fan of Southern Shaolin. Still, I'd like to see NPM in action just to see how the flashyness ties in with effectiveness. Close Quarters Combat Tactics - Hope to see you there!
