What are pressure points?

Recommended Posts

Hi Myst,

Here are a couple of things to try on her (they aren't dangerous but it may help you to get an effect.

Lung 5. Place the arm palm up and just on the wrist side of the elbow joint on the thumb side of the arm is a point. find the muscle there and dig your thumb in which is the most common approach to using it. That will create a bit of pain but the best way to acivate it is to then rotate the thumb outwards (like peeling an orage). What you will find (if in the correct place) is that the entire body will start to give along the side you are applying the tech and the knees will also start to give. Then try it adding a bit of a vibration, ie add a bit of small movement in a sort of fig 8 movement on the spot. Make it fast and when you get to the corrct frequency they will give. Its quite good to control an opponent who has a grab on (I got banned from using it in Judo!).

The other one to try is stomach 11. On the clavicle run your finger along towards the neck until you come to a small lump. Hook your finger (just the one) and push it in and down behind here, pushing down and towards the opposite side hip. Again you will find that while it does hurt, the effect on the body is more important. Again you can add vibration (imagine your finger is a hammerdrill, that sort of thing) and its again handy to control an opp who has a grab on.

These two tend to be pretty effective regardless of who they are done on and are easy enough to get to. They also aren't gen ko points or for pain compliance but cause an obvious effect on the opps body.

One day those pressure point things will catch up on you and your sister and you'll drop dead while checking the mail! Just kidding, but that is weird...maybe you're the 5% who are immune. If I was you, I'd totally go and see a practitioner of Chinese medicine and have them check you out.
