RH03
I am a beginner and I just wanted some advice. I am interested in learning how to use the sais, but I do not know where to receive instruction for it. Where should I begin to look?
strangepair03
You can try some dvd's about okinawan kobudo...many are very well done and easy to learn the basics from...also finding the right sized sai helps also.....sould be about 1 inch shorter than the length measured from your extended middle finger to the elbow...example your measurement is 21" you should buy 20" sai...and so on Good Luck A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.Kyan Chotoku Sensei
Sauzin
I would suggest starting in the phone book. Look up any karate schools in your area. Traditional schools are most likely to have competent sai practice. Styles like Shorin-ryu, Goju-ryu, Isshin-ryu, and Okinawan Kenpo are just a few. The best way is to just call them up and ask them what kinds of weapons they practice and where they learned them from. If you are looking for sais and they can't trace who they learned it from back to Okinawa I would try another number. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
