Treatment of Taliban prisoners - shaving them because they h

It's amazing how one comment can really stir up the pot, eh? But I guess that's how it goes when debating politics and religion. I really wasn't offended by Zaknafein's lucky statement either. In fact, I am lucky. Damn lucky to live in a country where my father served on a destroyer in WWII and Korea, where my best friend is an Army Ranger ready to defend his homeland anywhere in the world within a few hours notice, where I can express my political and religious views in a public forum, etc. In turn, I try to respect other cultures and philosophies. I am a very tolerant person for being such a redneck. (Redneck- a person who is normally associated with having a gun rack in the back window of their pickup truck and beer cans on the floorboards. Modernized versions of the redneck are more educated, and frequently have a compact handgun stored in the center console of their Chevy Silverado 4x4.) But, there is a fine line that I draw with respect to anyone who threatens the Constitution of the United States, and so does our Secretary of War. Some so-called individual rights are going to be ignored. That's they way we take care of business. Our treatment still outweighs how they treated their own. Case closed.

I am finding the news reports that Taliban prisoners held in Afghan prisons want to go to Camp X-Ray and be held in the American prison. They want to go where they will be treated better. Ironic.

Religon and Law are different. To them their beard is as important as there lifes, and i'm sure there are other ways to clean them up.

Americans closed minded. They will hate the whole race because a few people had done somthing bad. In my shool, muslims are constatly called racist names and beaten up on. At first i tried to stop my firneds form being such ass wipes to them but there are to many poeple that hate them. A muslim girl in my class, well, her dad was shot in Teaxes.

Also americans call them "evil" for killing "woman and children" but USA is here bombing the crap out of them. And helping the Jews with weapon and money to steal Muslims' land that belong to them. Killing more then they will ever kill any americans.

I'm no muslim, I'm Amerian and I do not suport terror at all. And i'm sure some of you are angry with me right now. I'm sjust sick of seeing this sick treatment toward muslims in Highschool and all around me.

Yes, Muay, there is supposed to be seperation of church and state, but our system was constucted based on religious morals and beliefs. This isn't anything new. Just study Western Civilization to get an idea of how the church influenced government hundreds of years ago. Then compare that to mid east countries of today. Different times, different religions, but the political structures are based/influenced by religion. Israel vs Palistine is a more complex situation that can't be described in just one paragraph or even understood by what you see on TV, so don't base an opinion of what they are doing over there until you read the history behind the conflict.

Guilt by association is an unfair reality of life. Educate yourself on these subjects and you will understand the world a little more and maybe be able to change the minds of your idiot friends.

Zaknafein - just in case you think you are going mad, I got it that you were joking with the "lucky" comment! (This culture of having to put these inane "smilies" on everything is quite preposterous!)

The attack on America on 11/9/01 was a tragedy and a travesty. To a lot of other countries and their people, however, it was the chickens coming home to roost. The USA has been seen to be blindly supporting the torture and murder of Palestinians in the Middle East, the bombing of countless civilians in Iraq (against a regime that the USA financed and armed when Iran was the greater enemy) and Afghanistan (and let's not forget who enabled the Taliban to come to power in the first place by arming and financing the Mujahadeen when the USSR was the "great evil"). The plain fact is that a lot of Muslims have seen the USA and UK get away with killing hundreds if not thousands of people and nobody takes them to task about it (perhaps because the bodies killed in that case were all poor and mainly brown?) This is why some unenlightened people think that Bin Laden is their hero. The latest unpleasant revelation is that young children are developing breast and uterine cancers due to the depleted uranium shells that the USA and UK used in the Gulf conflict. (see http://news6.thdo.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/middle_east/newsid_70000/70029.stm)

The USA was only able by international law to go into Afghanistan and start kicking arse because they could prove to the international community's satisfaction that the terrorists involved were part of the de facto government of that nation - otherwise they would have been invaders themselves. If the Basque separatist group, ETA, had carried out the bombing, would the USA have gone into Spain with cannon roaring? OR if they had been Chinese terrorists? They wouldn't have dared! But Afghanistan is a puny little country so they can do what they like.

Come to that, the UK mainland has been bombed by the Irish Republican Army terrorists for over 30 years - should the UK invade Ireland now? Certainly the Irish government of the past gave tacit support to the IRA's cause. Even more germane, many IRA terrorists have been financed by American groups - NORAID being the best known - and many terrorists have been allowed to remain in the USA by American judges who have claimed that they would be killed or persecuted if they were returned to UK gaols, and were political prisoners. So in effect the USA has harboured terrorists and supported and financed terrorist actions against another sovereign territority (and supposed ally!) itself.

Now I am no supporter of terrorism - I come from Northern Ireland originally which has had the arse ripped out of it by terrorists of various political persuasions and I have nothing but contempt for any terrorist. However one has to be able to try to understand the point of view of the other side, however repellent it seems. (If for no other reason than to know the enemy!) (inane smiley time).

My point is that no nation has its hands clean when it comes to international politics and no nation can claim to have the moral high ground even in a conflict like the current one. However, if you CLAIM the moral high ground then you have to be able to justify it. The Taliban prisoners are being treated worse than Tim McVeigh was for essentially the same crime. What is the difference there except that one of them is white? The USA is supposed to be better than the Taliban - they keep saying so. To disrespect these men's religion by the shaving of hair and beards is a defilement as bad as the Taliban blowing up the Buddhist monuments.

Don't get me wrong, I in no way support any terrorists and I don't think any should be treated with kid gloves, but *we* are supposed to be better than *they* and we need to show it.

I agree with you to.

USA has never suffered form anything and in every war they lose less then there enemies.

For example the viet and keoran war, We complained and say how evil everybody is when we lost about 50,000 men but the viet lost over 1 million woman, children, everybody.

When terrow hits USA, they could not handle the fact that any body could dare to even attempt to hurt them, the go to war.

What are thou missiles made for anyways right? IF they are not put to use, the will be wasted when newer missils comes out. Why not just drop it on people's head?

Everytime USA goes to war, the encomy would get better. They have really nothing lose and all to gain.
