DireEyes
Hail, I and a few friends of mine are trying to make our own style based from Battoujutsu for defensive purposes,we cant find any Instructor/Sensei in our area that knows any basic Battoujutsu techs. I would be greatly in debt if someone could please e- mail me even just one detailed description of the stance and all motions needed to execute this method of removing the sword from sheath at a great speed.I will say we are all novice to this and our skills lacking. Though we have great interest in this spicific style and wish to know as much as we can about it. Thank you. p.s. please e-mail bbass82@earthlink.net OR RobertBass990@hotmail.com I do not congradulate those who are greater than I or those who surpass me. I Respect and Honor them. Shane
I have no info on the style your looking for, but as far as the poll goes I want to say that I believe everyone takes from a style and makes their own in many ways rather or not they change the name or whatever. You can have 2 individuals who start training the same day under the same instructor and become instructors together, then they go and each open their own school. Each instructor will have their own methods and in time the 2 schools could become very different. This is not a bad thing its about going with what works for you and making it happen. A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
SevenStar
lol, you and your friends are anime fans, no? I've got the whole kenshin series on DVD. battou jutsu isn't a style - it's a generic term for the art of drawing a sword. It's also known as iai jutsu. One of the highest ranking american kendo and iaido instructors in the world lives in my city. He can't teach you long distance though... Also, I wouldn't recommend trying to create your own style - especially if you've got no previous training. you are only hurting yourself that way. battousai16
man sevenstar, i just never figured you for an anime fan... it surprises me every time... at any rate, you have the whole series? even after the whole shishio thing? i thought it really got weird after kenshin started fighting jesus... and jesus lost because he wasn't as pure of heart as kenshin ... bah. at any rate, i've said it before and i'll say it again: i don't like the idea of learning sword form a video. it just never works out, especially with drawing. far to many little intricacies. drawings a pain even with an instructor hovering over you. so yeah. i like kenshin too, but it's not worth it if you don't have an experienced instructor there. it just gets to messy. one of the highest ranking in the world, eh? i'll have to check that out the next time i'm in TN... Nick_UKWC
i thought it really got weird after kenshin started fighting jesus... and jesus lost because he wasn't as pure of heart as kenshin lmao, you sure do get some crazy plots in Anime. Bit like Evangelion, starts good and gets seriously weird. I've got alot of stuff that I haven't even had a chance to watch yet, like the paranoia agent series and all of gasaraki. I think kenshin began to SUCK after the kyoto arc. it was too inconsistent, and generally poorly written. magical feng shui wizards? c'mon... But yeah, I have the entire series and all of the OVAs. he's the highest ranking american - I dunno how he ranks among the japanese. He was in japan while in the military and began training iado, kendo and judo there. His judo is awesome as well. When he tests for rank in kendo, he has to go to japan, because there is nobody in America who can test him, from what I understand.
Treebranch
Well aside from anime which I am also a fan of, but mostly for reasons that have nothing to do with martial arts. Drawing the sword quickly is taught in Iaido and some other Kenjutsu teach it as well. The draw cut is difficult and you shouldn't try it if you are not training with an instructor, especially with an edged weapon. The other thing is that you have to make sure the sword isn't too long for you and the body mechanics used for a draw cut, can't be learned from videos unless you have prior training. DireEyes
Hello. Sorry and Thank you for your insight. I have been searching for it and asking around and have asked a freind who cunsulted his Sensei about it and he said he had a vague reference to Battoujutsu as a Technique, not style at all and that it has had changed names possiably. Something about holding the sheathed sword up in a position that would give it a slingshot effect to the draw and a fast horizontal slash. And TY for the mentioning of Idiao. While i was searching around i found a very interesting one, Aikido. Anyways, I am VERY poorly trained in the names of martial arts styles. On another note.I said what i didnt really mean, my friends and i arent really trying to make a style in whole, just a wide area of techniques. Sorry for my incompantance, my martial arts knowled doesnt expand any further than what i got from a TaeKwanDo(i cant spell) teacher teaching me some DT on a military base(as i was born on one) Please excuse the long post : ) I do not congradulate those who are greater than I or those who surpass me. I Respect and Honor them.
