I can't beleive someone actually said be careful not to get submitted in reference to a street fight. The reason most fights end up on the ground is because one or more of the people involved in them does not know how to stay on their feet. A straight tackle is by far the most used technique...and that is usually used by an out of control or frustrated attacker. Important points to remember are to keep your center of balance and to redirect the opponents force...do NOT let him take you down...the ground is where lots of bad things can happen. If you do get knocked over or tackled your immediate response should be to do everything you can to get back to your feet. Remember this is a real fight, if the guy is on top of you scratch at his eyes, crush his testicles and tear at his nostrils and ear lobes. While you are doing this buck your hips to try and get them off of you. If they decide to pretend like they are a monkey and wrap their legs around you drive your elbow into their throat. I can almost gaurantee one of the above mentioned techniques will force them to release you long enough for you to get back on your feet.

depends on HOW he's on top of you. If his upper torso is close to yours, you can try those things, but I can tell you from experience, pain compliance isn't the answer. If he's mounted and his torso is not touching yours (i.e, he's in a full mount preparing to throw strikes at you) by extending your arm to do the things you mentioned is merely setting yourself up to get your arm broken.

His testicles will be near you no matter what. As to the rest sure you may get your arm broken...better than to get killed though.

I remember watching (video) Renzo Gracie fighting some guy in a back ally in Rio. Renzo was in the mount and the other guy tried to claw his way out, he even tried to bite Renzo. In retaliation Renzo bit the guy’s ear off.

I use to role with a guy that was trained by Rickson Gracie. Rickson could kick his butt and he could kick mine and every guy that I have mounted in a street fight got their butts kicked by me.

So much for the clawing your way out theory!

A minute of experience on the street is worth a year of training in the dojo.

If you can’t sprawl and brawl, you can’t street fight.

I prefer to stay on my feet but I have taken people to the ground deliberately before. It’s sometimes easier to take someone out quickly by taking them to the ground. My last fight was like this.

You remember a video that someone supposedly took of Renzo Gracie in a BACK alley in Rio...hmm...sounds questionable. And your one point to disprove using your fingers to claw at a persons face won't work is to claim that a trained martial artist had to bite someones ear off?...doesn't sound very flattering to me. And it may be quicker to take someone to the ground to try and best them..but try doing it on glass...on urine...with his friends around.

The fight with Renzo biting the guy’s ear is on a BJJ instructional video tape, done by Renzo Gracie and Greg Kluchuck (spelling?). I’m sure that I’m not the only one on this forum to have seen it.

I guess you don’t believe me. Well you’re entitled to your opinion.

Have a nice day. :)

I have seen the Renzo tape. Also one of Ryan Gracie where an opponent is mounted and tries to bite him so Ryan headbutts and bites the guy back from the mount. The Gracies have a few of these scary home movies.

It isn't wrong to rake the eyes or bite or any thing else in a life or death situation but learning some sweeps when mounted or a knee and elbow escape to guard are battle tested techniques that will put you in a better position to inflict pain and suffering or even better run away.

One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.

Pull the mounter in close and hit some pressure points/soft points, and try to roll him. Also, you can wrap your legs around his torso and squeeze his ribs. BJJ is a good MA to study for this kind of thing.

If someone has mounted you, you should try to wrap your arms around his arms so he cannot punch you...If he is experienced, he will probably try to headbutt you next so watch out. if his head comes down, pull him close to you and hold him tightly. Holding him close should diminish the power of any of his strikes. To roll him over, stick your thumb in his eye.

Onced rolled over, attack his throat with strikes or grab it with an eagle claw.

No guarantees that it'll work but it's something to think about.

What works works
