SaiFightsMS Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 Road rage, out of line parents at kids sports, behaviour in stores and on and on. How can we, as a society learn self control? Can we have an influence on others? How?
Piastre Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 I truly don't believe we can. The more advanced we become technologically, the further we regress socially. Man is a very selfish species by nature, and it seems we're seeing the worst of that selfishness more and more lately. Of course that's not to say that there isn't a hell of a lot of good, and good people, in the world. There is. It's just unfortunate that there will always be a large element who see there own base needs are of far more importance than compassion, tolerance and kindness.
SaiFightsMS Posted January 16, 2002 Author Posted January 16, 2002 Okay, that's one point of view. What about doing simple things on an individual basis. Little things like reminding people: hey, it is a game the kids should have fun; it doesn't matter how much you fuss traffic isn't going to go any faster. Little things. Any thoughts?
kicker Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 well learning self control is basically your own doing you may be taught how to control yourself but you might listen you might not. It's all up to the person it's their life they can manage even if they have to learn the hard way they might finally get it through there head what self control is or maybe not never know Well we could have an enfluence on others by not doing whats wrong so lets say take way back when you were in School grades 1-6 when you were little i am sure you looked at the older kids and how they did things you thought it was okay but really it wasn't so I think that's one really main thing that may have got influenced to you or someone when you do your best it`s going to show. Slider Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 I dont personally believe that society as a whole will learn total self control. I agree that man is very selfish by nature, but some peeps can be raised to know proper self control, but not all. Hasta!!' Slider Check out "Koldsteel" Enterprises. shotochem Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 A wise older friend once said " Human beings are just a step above an animal, some are a smaller step than others ". I am sorry to say he might be right.... Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
Joecooke007 Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 I teach myself self-control with self punishment. If I break a rule that I set for myself I punish myself by denying myself things. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
