cartoon22 Posted January 12, 2005 Share Posted January 12, 2005 I personnally can not see a problem with a student paying the instructor a gift, Providing it in done for the right reasons. What happens if the instructor gets used to getting gifts say after a grading and non are fore coming, how does that make them feel. I have not come across the problem of gofts from students to instuctors at our club the instructors buy gifts for the students (juniors) for the work that they have put in over the year. It's all part of the beauty of the closeness one gets when everyone strives to achieve a common goal. When a student strives to achieve a black belt, the instructor's goal is also the same which is to make that person a black belt and this common goal develops a bond which is often expressed in gifts. Quite a few months ago, on my sensei's birthday, I gave him this really nice cross-stitch cloth design that I'd started about 2 months before his birthday. He liked it.
