aefibird Posted January 15, 2005 Author Posted January 15, 2005 If you have trained in wing chun then may i ask what is the reason for the other arts, is just to expand your base of knowledge, for fun, or for some other reason. This not meant to be inflammatory just a question into why different people train in various arts and some never do anything different. I find it to be a good thing to see and experiance what others do so that you do not windup training in the dark. Thank Ya'll Well, I started my MA training in Karate, Kobudo and Aikido. I still practice Karate and Kobudo. I started training in Wing Chun because I was offered a free lesson. Well, it was more to expand my MA knowledge and learn new things, but the free lesson sure helped! I trained on this ITK TKD course because it was my friend that was running it. I really enjoyed training in ITK TKD and I'd like to train in it further in the future; I just don't have the time at the moment. However, even though I've not been able to train much with the ITK TKD guys at that dojang, we learned from one another. That's one of the reasons that I train in more than one style of MA - to learn from others and see how other folks do stuff. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." mattyj Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Try this site for ITF Chang Hon Forms: http://www.natkd.com/chang_hon.htm thats...very...interesting... those patterns are being done in a very odd (sorry i should say different) way... almost like karate katas.. check these videos out for comparison: ITF Patterns these guys arent the creme de la creme but its done in the usual itf fashion...
tufrthanu Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 As far as I can tell the Chang Hon forms were always done "karate" style until about 1983 when choi instituted the Sine wave. I know at my school we do them the old way. Long Live the Fighters!
mattyj Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 actually, yea your right. the sine wave was only introduced more recently. The movements were a bit more 'seperated' than traditional karate style. I guess the itf style was something developed over gen. choi's life.
embm Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Didn't Choi repudiate the sine wave before he died? Team RespectI may have taught you everything you know, but I haven't taught you everything I know. Age and treachery can beat youth and speed any day.
