The Saint Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Is it freestyle or are you doing it with a pattern? If it's Freestyle you should come up with a routine and perfect it to death. gl "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." Choi, Hong Hi ITF Founder
P.A.L Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 go to https://www.wonder-okinawa.jp under okinawan karate look for Naha-te ,under naha-te look for ryuei ryu katas, down load "Anan" kata and check it out. also "Gojushiho" looks good. kusanku dai is good too. if your are into kata business in tournoments then you need to know some katas from different styles. normally from Goju ryu or shito-ryu. although sensei Sakamoto won the world title mainly by Ryuei ryu katas.
searcher Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I agree with P.A.L. on this in that in competition it is a good idea to have variety in your forms. If you are into the Jap/Oki forms you should seriously check out Ryuei-ryu, especially if you are living in the San Diego area. UCSD has a Ryuei-ryu school and training group. Shito-ryu has the largest variety of forms in one style, it is like a melting pot of Okinawan forms. If you are into Korean forms you should look into ITF TKD or maybe into Hwarang-do, they both have some very nice forms. If you are into Chinese arts you should check out wushu or one of the northern styles, they have some very nice kicks or if you are not a high kicker look into a southern style like Hung Gar or Choy Li Fut. It really depends on what type of competition we are talking about and for what division. "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
Kumite988 Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Wouldn't try Anan or Gojyushiho unless your pretty advanced (blackbelt). What belt are you? Probably some kind of Kushanku would be good, or Rohai or something.
Kicks Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I posted these links on another forum (WEAPONS), but thought you might want to view them here. aefibird Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Nice clips. I especially liked the one of you all performing Tae Guk Oh Jang together with the bo and the sai. Good demo! strangepair03 Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 You could try looking for tokumine-no-kun bo kata, fairly easy to learn and look good, it's okinawan, can be found in many styles...isshin,shorin,etc...
