yes, Mr. Metz is my instructor, confidant and very good friend. That man has a heart of gold. He's running me through and accelerated instructor's program right now, and opening more schools soon. He also teaches Okinawan Kobudo and Combat Hapkido, as well as TKD to the right people.

So, how did you know of him?

The IKCA is one of the most well organized associations I've ever stumbled across. I like the way the curriculum is laid out for the students; no guessing games, no * esoterics. I've had the opportunity to train personally with Mr. Leroux. What a fantastic stylist! He introduced me to the principles of Jut Sau and other dynamic training ideas.

How far are you in the IKCA tapes?

I met Paul Metz and some of his students in Long Beach. Good, knowlegable instructor, and his students speak volumes for his quality of instruction.

Not far into the tapes yet, but I'm in no hurry either. I'm thinking about asking Mr. LeRoux if I can send an extra tape in for evaluation with some stuff not required for rank or tests. Don't know if they'll do that, but it can't hurt to ask.

Good to have you here! There's a pretty good group here- a lot of experience in a lot of styles. But we're just a little short on Kenpo/Kempo systems, though that's getting a little better.

i was wondering what would happen if you kicked a boxer. they don't get much practice with downward blocks if i'm correct. wouldn't that be a major weakness?

Posted

depends. If you kick them at the right time and place, then yes. in terms of principles, they are the same as punches. for example, a roundhouse is an arcing technique. so is a hook punch. I can block a roundhouse to the body the same way I would block a body hook. same with thrusting kicks, though may be a tad harder. A high thrusting kick I can slip or sidestep, like I would a thrusting punch.

If you want to kick a boxer, kick his legs. They put alot of weight on their front leg when they throw power shots, like the cross and rear hook.

are you not assuming a boxer can't shift weight fast , check the kick and come back with a power 1-2.

very high % move.

they can indeed shift weight fast. He's not gonna check the kick though. A thai boxer will, no doubt, but not a boxer - at least not from the outset. he'd eventually catch on, but hopefully you'll have his legs wobbly by then.

whoa.... did a kempo guy say "jut sau"?

regarding boxers and kicks.

in the uk K1 competitions, sometimes you get the occasional boxer entering.

the last time i saw a boxer against a uk/full rules muay thai guy,

the boxer had no idea what to do against the typical kick aimed at the thigh.

he ended up dropping his hands to offer more protection against low kicks but that kinda left him open halfway for both high and low attacks.

he didn't make it past that match up.

and yes, his legs went very wobbly.....

post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are.

that's why you take 'em down nice and fast. it's important to get it over within a few seconds rather than prolong the fight. it's dangerous to let a fight continue, even for a skilled and confidant fighter no matter what combat system you use..

7S,

I can tell you that I check a leg kicks all the time .

In fact , I like it when someone opens low like that , they won't even see my 1-2, or 2-1, or 1-3 , or any other combo I feel like .

the guy in K-1 is frans botha , a has been 2 rate boxer .

you give iron mike 3 months training in DEFENDING kicks only and he'll rip through any K1 fighter .

a lot of people underestimate how fast boxing hands are .

I did indeed say Jut Sau! Kenpo may be my style, but I use anything that works...I know of no system that can be kncked. Everything has it's plusses. THe others were (bear with me now, I was busy trying these and not too busy writing them down) Bong Sau, and Lom Pau(again, hope I seplled those right.), there others, but I couldn't remember all the names, just teh way they are HIGHLY effective!
