ultimaswat Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Hi--I have a question about "mixed martial arts." I'm just a web designer, and I'm no expert in martial arts, but in doing a website for a martial arts studio, I'm trying to determine the best categories to submit. What is the definition of maa? And how about submission fighting? The site is for a school where multiple ma styles are taught, including jiujitsu, krav maga, and muay thai, among others, but I think multi styles is different than mixed. Am I right? Are these considered maa? submission? Thanks for asking what might be a really simple question for many of you. I appreciate the help. Gumbi Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Mixed Martial Arts is generally seen as No Holds Barred Fighting (or training for it). It includes all aspects of a fight, but whichever martial arts you use to train for those aspects of a fight is entirely up to the practicioner. MMA usually also suggests that the fighters have effectively combined elements of the different styles into their own (i.e. using a punch to set up the clinch).
cross Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 It depends on HOW the arts are taught, if they are taught in seperate classes but at the same training hall then its not really mma. If they are taught in the same class i.e. "mixed" together, then that would be mma. If you cant work out whats best it would be a good idea to ask the people your making the site for. Hope that helps.
ultimaswat Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 It does; thank you very much! Shorinryu Sensei Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Maybe this is just to obvious, but if you're making a webpage for a martial arts business, shouldn't you be asking them those questions? After all, isn't it their webpage and shouldn't they decide what they want to define their art as? My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
DokterVet Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 An MMA schools prepare you to compete in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. If they don't do that, and are just teaching a bunch of arts without that intention, I wouldn't use the term MMA. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
Shane Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Mixed Martial Arts This does not only appy to those schools training students for NHB fights, we train in the Mixed Martial Arts our primary focus is self-defense, we train weapons defense, mulitpal attackers you name it, no one in our Mixed Martial Arts class even competes. The reason our class is titled mixed martial arts is because we blend styles such as Jujitsu, kickboxingand muay thai kickboxing, karate, gung-fu. A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
ultimaswat Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Yes, it's obvious. But this was just such a perfect place to ask; it saved me having to wait for a return call and chase down the school owners. You all got back to me right away. That answered my question! Thanks again.
