shotokanwarrior Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 I have a problem with stories like this, I find it hard to believe and sicken that someone in a martial art ( style does not matter ) would even lower themself to a mere street thug by choosing to mock others on the street. It is not the karate way for one thing or even the kenpo way. If I was the teacher of these men they would be out of my school. Kenpo teaches to never fight to achieve your selfishness but to defend yourself, loved ones in self defense. As a side note MMA I have met are not even like this, they are cool guys and dont usually start conflicts. Where Art ends, nature begins.
DeadCell Posted December 4, 2004 Author Posted December 4, 2004 I totally agree. I kept telling him Martial Artists are not usually like this at all.
VinnieDaChin Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Umm, Vinnie, doing something like that could get you 10 to life. i didnt say to kill him. but a kick as a guys kneeling or whatever oughta knock him out.
MenteReligieuse Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 A friend of mine told me a nice story : My friend does MA with me, and one night he was at a McDonalds with 3 other MA fellows. 2 or 3 drunk guys come in and start talking * to one of my friends. The one targeted is particuliarly tough, he is also an assistant instructor at the kwan and does kenpo as well as ninjitsu and kung fu. So they are peacefully eating their fries or whatever, when these drunkards start talking *, but my friends totally ignored them. There is little doubt in my mind that they could of taken those drunks but I guess there was no point in doing so, since they werent threatened in any way.
shotokanwarrior Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 There is no honor in beating up a bunch of drunks, unless you are defending yourself from an attack then getting away. Calling the police is always an option, where I live it is ileagle to be drunk in public. Where Art ends, nature begins.
delta1 Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 There is no honor in beating up a bunch of drunks, ... No, but it can be a lot of fun! ... it is ileagle to be drunk in public. Unfortunately, it is also illegal to beat drunks in public. You should allways take him out back first! Freedom isn't free!
batman2 Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 i think thats because some martial art school just focus more on the art and working out and practice ing movements not on actual fighting so the fight club you would get much more expierence at actual fighting so example the dojo my friend owns does 90 minutes of kata and only 10 of sparring i was going to go not to get rusty but 20 minutes of sparring a week wasnt worth it too sweet
Flying Tiger Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 I have to agree with Batman2, I would think your friend would have a more applicable "style" of fighting since he probably encounters a lot of different methods of fighting in his fight club, an since it is full-contact, he is probaby used to dealing with that level of stress and adrenaline. The greatest clarity is profound silence.
Luckykboxer Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 something here really bothers me and this is it.. you say the guy is a kenpo practitioner for 3 years. obviously if this is true then his school isnt teaching, or requiring the pledges that normally go along with kenpo. pledges of restraint for example. and pledging to never misuse the skills learned to hurt others. I would have to say that there is probably alot more to this story. If not then I would say that the kenpo school the guy goes to is a crappy one. And yes to answer your question real life experience is invaluable. even if it is preventing punching to the face.
DeadCell Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 Well since the incident, I have constantly ask my friend if there was more to it. But he assures me he has no idea whats going on. IDK, its a strange situation. Thanks for the post Lucky.
