Nick_UKWC Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Right so you have one guy that actually runs a club which does nothing but full contact fighting (even if it is 'only' below the neck) and one loud mouth braggart showing all the qualities that give MA a bad name, and you wonder why it went the way it did? How does this sound, one of them knows how to fight, the other has a loud mouth and a few lessons under his belt. Lessons he has clearly not taken very much from. Kaminari Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 In a lot of MA schools, sparring is light contact/for points, etc., and far from real fighting. Experience is what your friend had over this other guy. I'm guessing that this guy wasn't trained to fight in the streets and such, so he's not going to be prepared for it.
Little Dragon Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 why would the guy come up to you guys and start talkin sheet for owning a fight club? its like saying....''you own a T-shirt...you think your so bad?!'' maybe that beat down knocked some sense into his head xD ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
shotokanwarrior Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 something is really wrong. 3 yrs of kenpo, he should be able to handle himself. Kenpo guys are usually good. Where Art ends, nature begins.
Khan Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I have a problem with stories like this, I find it hard to believe and sicken that someone in a martial art ( style does not matter ) would even lower themself to a mere street thug by choosing to mock others on the street. It is not the karate way for one thing or even the kenpo way. If I was the teacher of these men they would be out of my school. Kenpo teaches to never fight to achieve your selfishness but to defend yourself, loved ones in self defense. As a side note MMA I have met are not even like this, they are cool guys and dont usually start conflicts. Actually there are a lot of people like that, in my old area there was a tak soo kwong or something teacher who encouraged his students to start trouble in other clubs, he said things like, "its a good way to practice street fighting."
shotokanwarrior Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 It is better to have a friend than an enemy. I would have walked up to the guys and asked them about their fight club, maybe attending or participating. Where Art ends, nature begins.
Muaythaiboxer Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 lol sounds just like my high school fight club except we wore my grappling gloves and had face shots. Fist visible Strike invisible
Spinzx6r Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Here is the only thing I don't understand....The agressor fell down, got up slowly and came in again, he tried to put my friend in a wrist type lock but failed when my friend's fist found the aggressors face and then my friend envoked a weird throw sending the dude down. Why would a guy that has been taking Kenpo for 3yrs go for a wrist lock!? Unless it isn't an straight American Kenpo school and maybe they have some other stuff mixed into their system...Other then that I'll agree 100% real life experiance is invaluable. Spin
Muaythaiboxer Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 kenpo from what i have seen is a very good art but i am not suprised to hear that a kenpo student was beaten there are poor quality students in every art and in an previous post deadcell even said he wasn't that good. Fist visible Strike invisible
