Hey, Slider.

I study Shaolin Kempo that is from the Adriano Emperado lineage (Kajukenbo). There aren't too many Parker System practitioners teaching in this area.

My buddy's wife trains in the Parker System and she's a talented martial artist. She can watch my back in a bar fight!

Good to have you here.

Take care.

I know absolutely nothing about Kenpo/Kempo... I've heard about it but that's about as far as my knowledge extends. What does it include? Like what do you guys do? Punching and kicking? Grappling? Combo's?

Kenpo karate places alot of emphises on the use of hands and low kicks. A good example of our system would be if u ever saw the movie "perfect weapon" or any movie by Jeff Speakman. Speakman was a student of Ed Parker, and one of his Black Belts.

Kenpo teaches to end a fight quickly by kicking the groin, knees, or attacking vital areas of the body. Very fast hands, and low kicks basically. We also have some pretty nifty joint locks as well.

What is the general style that people study here?

General???!!!!

I don't think there's any general style on this board. Look at all the forums to choose from.

Yeah I saw Perfect Weapon. Good flick. I esspecially liked his bout in the gym. But why did they show him learning from an old oriental guy instead of Parker? :dodgy:

That's a rhetorical question of course. The answer is always "That's Hollywood".

I guess parker chose not to take that part I guess. Funny that the location of the school was actually one of parkers pasadena schools, but they chose the asian guy to play the part. He played the part very well, but Parker would have played better..ALOT better. It would have been truely awsome to see parker in that movie, but he chose to be just an advisor for the movie.

I have to admit that "The Perfect Weapon" is about the extent of my knowledge of kenpo. It is just one of the many things I want to learn more about in the future. Currently I am working on Sanchin. It is outside my style, which is Shotokan. I find that I enjoy learning just about anything there is when it comes to the martial arts.
