Nick_UKWC Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 As the saying goes, "the punch came up from his boots" "...or maybe you are carrying a large vicious dog in your pocket." -Scottnshelly
KF Dude Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Great post Angela. All striking comes from the ground up. The legs & hips are the main driving forces behind the movement. Waist rotation, a slight shoulder stretch when chambering & arm/forearm rotation all add power as well. Proper alignment of the foot, shoulder, arm, wrist & fist at the moment of impact ensures maximum delivery of the force generated into your opponent. Let's also not forget proper breathing. The human body is amazing considering all of this happens in a split second.
Gosuku Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Also you should consider the idea that once impact is made the force applied travels back through the body to the ground. My instructor's instructor, a sixth dan explained to me that within that fraction of a second the force goes back to the ground and travels back to point of contact again, like a double hit. That is why we are taught to keep the heels down. I always wonder the effectiveness compared to lifting the heel for the extra travel. It is necessary however to use the whole body especially the hips when gathering power.
ovine king Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 double hit? um, no offence but that sounds like a really bad misinterpretation of the physics involved... earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.
