P.A.L Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 i think anything less than 12oz is waste of money, i have couple of 8oz gis that i hate , my best is 16oz. do you guys use bleach for washing a gi?
Omega14 Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Its funny because I prefer the medium weight over the light weight, and light over heavy. In most cases, I find the heavy weight to be too hot. Well, my opinion may be influenced by the fact that my heavy weight gi is oddly designed. Light weights are good because they dry quickly . With the washing part, I don't use bleach because I find it to shorten the life of the gi.
aefibird Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 I sometimes use specialist washing bleach (such as Ace) for washing my heavy weight gi, but I generally don't bother unless there's a lot of dirt on them (or bloodstains!) Grenadier Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Assuming you've had previous experience, I'd recommend going with a medium or heavweight gi. There are all sorts of 10 oz and 12 oz cotton gi's (some brushed cotton, some ordinary canvas) that will be plenty durable. If you decide that you need a heavier gi (14+ oz), then you'll know what to get by then. Besides, even if you end up buying another 14+ oz gi, it's not as if you're going to stop using the 10-12 oz gi entirely.
strangepair03 Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I have 4 heavywt gi's and i like them much more than the lt. wt. ones I had in the beginning of my training, when I wash them I use tide w/bleach alternative...works great...also I have that oxyclean powder.. I make a paste with a little water and rub it into tought(blood) stains before washing, has worked everytime!! good luck A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.Kyan Chotoku Sensei

aes Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Anyone have the Arawaza - Sapphire Gi? I've only had 2 lessons so far but I love it and I really want a good one. Our Sensei sells Kamikazi and Arawaza at really good prices. I have an Arawaza Sapphire and love it. Lots of snap fits nice. 43 Years oldBlue Belt (7th Kyu) Shorin-ryuRoberts Karate
The Saint Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 go with a heavy weight for training and a light weight for competition. I have a black training Gi and a White competiton Gi. The competeion GI is only used in Competitions and gradings. PLus has no yellow pit stains. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." Choi, Hong Hi ITF Founder
