the weapon rule?? to nix or not, that is the question

Hey I don't want to discourage questions. I just want to encourage better questions. Questions like:

"What timing is appropriate when doing a side strike?"

"Does the hip, the foot, or the bo move first?"

"What do I need to do to my front stance to make it work with a bo?"

"Where on the bo should my hands be when I complete a strike?"

"How close to my forward hand do I slide the back hand when doing a slip punch with a bo?"

"What is a good stance for a side block?"

"What makes a solid side block?"

"What kinds of blocks can be done with a bo?"

"What kinds of locks can be done with a bo?"

"How do you disarm a bo?"

"What is the proper way to grip a bo?"...

There's many, many more. And you don't have to get defensive. I'm just concerned for your safety and the safety of anyone reading your posts. After all, these were just suggestions.

yes i have seen these questions before, all who answered all said "go get an instructer" just like a broken record. :dodgy:

you never really answered helpfully (once or twice yall did)

and in my opinion those who ask those questions dont have an instructor and yall are just makin them more frustrated when yall tell em to go get one

Actually, those questions are very rare, from what I've seen. If anything, I've seen much less questions on specific, pure technique rather than other things. Not that there haven't been any discussion about it, but it usually stems from something else rather than a specific question about it. I think a lot of this has to do with how complex everything really is when you try to explain it over a text forum in detail (Like when I posted about a double punch in the Strategy section...I ended up going into way more detail than I wanted to simply because there is so much to be considered).

All the same, these questions are far, far less common than "Who can teach me the bo fundamentals" or "I want to know how to use the sword. Can anyone give me links to videos or teach me a form?" In case of these situations, then I WOULD tell them to get an instructor OR to narrow down their question. They rarely do. When they do, we are all more than happy to help.

Just a few, not all, of the posts where I think people have helped only in this weapons forum and only in the past month, which is a rather short time.

No you haven't asked any of these questions before. If you had I'm sure no one would ask you to get a qualified instructor, because you already have a qualified instructor for the bo, remember?

There's an old saying it goes something like, "If you ask a cruddy question, you get a cruddy answer. "

then it said you will use a metal bo

and now it turns out that you haven't even begun to train to use one yet.

what are we supposed to think?

once again, cos i haven't said this in a while.

If you are 16 and in college, then I would expect you to be smart enough to put coherent sentences together.
