Shorinryu Sensei
he when i get older and when i am a 2nd degree black belt and have move i was thinkin of startin my own dojo and one of my rules of the dojo is that you can only select one weapon to master till your a blackbelt. wadda yall think of it, should i nix this idea? and should this even be in the weapons forum? 1. TaeKwonDo doesn't do weapons as a "normal" part of their art. That doesn't stop them from doing so however....right kicks! 2. Judging by the way you form sentences and spell, I'd gather you are quite young right now, so I wouldn't worry to much about it. If you make it to 2nd Dan black belt down the road, you will probably have to follow a set teaching sylabus anyway, especially if you're in a strong TKD association. 3. No...BAD idea! For one thing, there is technically, IMHO, no way to master any aspect of a particular technique. Good? Sure. REALLY GOOD? Yep..but mastery? Nope. Drunken Monkey
this has been bothering me for quite a bit now. it's spelt "fracas". post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Drunken Monkey
learning something isn't the end. today, i learnt how to use a short stick in an armlock. doesn't mean i can do it. doesn't mean i will be able to it under pressure. doesn't mean i know all of the variations due to changes in angles. doesn't mean a thing...... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Sauzin
Um...yea nix the idea. In fact wait about 10 years then consult with your sensie to establish coarse material. And just so I can say I told you so, your general attitude towards weapons, such as thinking about weapon teaching techniques as a yellowbelt, practicing with swords and metal bo's, and your insistence that you can't find or don't need a qualified weapons instructor but need to jump into it now anyway because you just can't wait is going to get you hurt. Advice: 1.)Limit your weapon practice to a rattan bo or a white oak bo (6ft bo, jo, hanbo, nitan bo) until you can move to a place where there is a qualified weapon instructor or you get lucky and you find someone in your area. 2.)Slowwwww Dowwwwwnnnn. Practice your technique, form, and defenses repetitively and at a slow speed. 3.)Work closely with your instructor. 4.)Use the forum to ask basic questions relevant to the things you are working on at your rank. Don't fill your head with a million things that cannot be understood. Get the important stuff down first. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it. username4
ok the idea is nixed and any person knows that if they are thinkin their gonna start a dojo then they should speak with their instructor/sensei and i wont be startin a dojo till i get out of the navy after dentisy college so ill be like 30-35 so ive got plenty of time to figure stuff out. i have a an instuctor who can teach me the bo and NO i am not goin to use a metal bo until im like 30 or so if i even do which i probaly wont any way an i never ever start working with a new weapon (the bo right now) going at top speed, all thats gonna do is make me a cripple. and my instructor in the bo is some one who has the nessesary experiance to teach me the katas of the bo and i wasnt even in MA when i was useing my swords and when i got in i found out you should really have an instrucor so i sold them. ya happy and if you dont like my questions you just have to tell me and ill stop posting them, O-K!!!!
