SaiFightsMS Posted January 13, 2002 Posted January 13, 2002 So two Dads have a disagreement at a kids hockey practice and one is dead before it is all over. Input? Opinions? Do you think a situation like that could happen at a martial arts related event in your area?
kicker Posted January 13, 2002 Posted January 13, 2002 yes I heard about that on the news well for Martial Arts you never know it could happen but it's unlikely cause there would probably be someone there to stop it before it gets carried away when you do your best it`s going to show. KickChick Posted January 14, 2002 Posted January 14, 2002 Tempers flare at every sporting event ... but at a child's own event it is usually the parents themselves that are the ones acting up. It is downright embarrassing to see some of these parents (my husband coaches basketball and baseball so I've seen it first hand). Each individual has to have to common sense to walk away in such situations. Sure it could happen in martial arts. Our school instructor has had to defend himself many a time when a disgruntled parent asks why his child is not on the test list or given a reprimand. Thing is with that "hockey dad incident", the public (or jury) wasn't informed of the victim's criminal record, that he was a arrested on several accounts of battery and fighting "incidents" and other "violent offenses". Maybe it was self defense? This would have possibly swayed the jury's decision. Prior history of arrests or "incidents" should not have any bearing on this case... or should it? _________________ ITF/TKD Black Belt (1st dan)/Fitness Kickboxing Instructor (KarateForums Sensei) [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-01-14 11:15 ]
Patrick Posted January 14, 2002 Posted January 14, 2002 I was an All-Star little league baseball player for many years in different leagues. Some of the Dads at these things are so far out of line and I was actually coached by one once. Just an idiot that ruined the whole all-star season. We were a very good team, that actually ended up placing 3rd in New England (regionals) and we were actually a game away from being somewhat close to going to the World Series. But, one idiot ruined it a lot for me. Patrick O'Keefe - KarateForums.com AdministratorHave a suggestion or a bit of feedback relating to KarateForums.com? ramcalgary Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 Sometimes watching your kids do athletics is tough. I know when my son is sparring it is tough for me not to try to coach him or scream foul. I think many people need to learn a little self control. Remember sports should be fun and exciting. Not everyone will be the next Jordan. So relax and hust enjoy wether it is participating or simply observing. It is okay to enjoy yourself when pummeling your sparring partner just don't glote.!!! Honor is the most important thing a man has once you lose it it is gone forever
iamrushman Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 this out of control parent thing has been going on for a long time.....perhaps we should ban parents from chidren's sporting event,(just a thought, never a reality).............it seems fans in every sport is out of control....eg: soccer fans rioting.....football fans throwing bottles on the field.......baseball fans throwing batteries......that's why guns are outlawed at sporting events......... it's a sad state of affairs......... rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Slider Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 The perpatrator got exactly what he deserved. Not only was he way, way out of hand, but no matter what the beef was...it should have NEVER ended with the death of another human being. I followed this case very closely, cuz he claimed it was "Self-Defense". Well...I fail to believe that in a room with about 50-100 people, that his life could have been in so much danger that he needed to kill him. Totally pointless...ROT IN PRISON BUDDY!! Hasta!! ZR440 Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 The hockey dad got 6 to 10 in the pen for hitting a guy three or four times after being assaulted initially. Doctors said it was a fluke that one of the hits killed him. People in America will have to be extremely careful who they try to defend against. Don't think this can't happen to you, especially since you are trained in MA. That can be a big negative in the eyes of the jury. What a justice system we have. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
BrerRobot Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 The guy didn't deserve to die, but he did ask for a beating. the killer was pushed too far and when that line is crossed it can take a while for a person to calm down and realize how far things actually go. what they failed to mention is that the guy that died, has actually been in jail before for assault himself. he had quite a temper on him. and thanks to the lovely prosecuters they wouldnt let that be mentioned in the trial. prosecuters are bad bad people, they are out to screw you whether you are innocent or guilty. THEY DONT HAVE TO TELL THE TRUTH. I've had one blatently lie to me in ticket court, saying the cop had already testified when the cop DIDNT even show up at all. the ony friend a person has in the courtroom is your attorney and then your only paying him to be. alot of jurors dont know that they ARE the judge. A person could be 100% guilty in a crime but if a juror doesnt agree with the law or think the punishment is uncalled for he can vote not guilty. TKD_McGee Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 Before you go and pee your pants with anger about the Hockey Dad story you should know something. CNN is full of $hit, they portrayed it as a guy who killed another persons dad from rage in a hockey game. Actually the guy who was killed was verbally harassing the poor man the whole game and pushing him. (Like a little dog vs a big dog in a dogfight) The guy just ignored him, but eventually the little guy got arrogant so the big guy gave him a good punch to the head. The little guy fell down and hit his head on a wall in an ackward position and was killed. It was a freak accident, not a Sports Murder. _________________ Do unto others, as they done to you.
