Do your friends get involved?

Recommended Posts

My question is this:

If you were out with your mates and somebody for some reason, came up to you and was either threatening you or came up and hit you. Would your friends immediantly help you out?

Would they stand back and watch?

Would they jump in and try to stop the enemy?

Would they jump in and beat the living daylights out of the enemy?

I guess i will throw in a story or two aswell.

Well last weekend i went out with a few friends, to a bonfire we have in our town, fully supervised by police. Yea we had a good time there, then we heard there was a party up the road somewhere, so we headed towards the party. But on our way there we decided not to go to the party and instead we headed off towards a 24-7 take away food restraunt. We all got a drink and something to eat. Then more people showed up.

I went around and introduced myself to the people i did not know who were around me, then i started talking to this other kid, who was a little big bigger than me but very skinny, had glasses and did not look like much. So we were just out the front of this restraunt, it is a friendly talk so i think nothing of it when he tells me to walk a little bit over (like 3 metres) because we were at the door and yes it was hard to hear him, so yea i followed him a few metres and we were talking then, i notice he has taken me over to all his friends....

He then proceeds to tell me who they are and yea, i have had problems with one of them in the past (too long a story to tell there). But i had not talked to this person before, been in a few scraps with him tho, so i took this chance to start a conversation with him, saying yeah its alright i've got no problems with him. Then that other kid i was talking to asked me if i had any friends around, (By now i had 2 friends right behind me, because they knew i had been in a few scraps with these guys). And i said yea mate i got a few friends around.

So he says alright then you have two options right now:

1. All on brawl right now

or

2. We can shake hands

So i said something along the lines of yea mate its all good i do not have any problems with you, so i shook there hands and its all good now.

But yea, by then i had around 10 friends ready to jump in for me if anything happened from then, but i was very satisfied and happy with the results i got from it.

Not only did i end a on going beef with somebody. But as i was surrounded by 7 odd people, i kept as calm as i would have been if i was just with my friends, and i had run through my mind time and time again what to do if a fight broke out. Me and my mate who watched tho whole thing where very happy with my performance. He does karate and he said i kept very very calm, and not many people he knows would have kept that calm in that kind of situation.

What would your friends do in a similar situation if a fight had broken out, i know all my mates would have jumped in and did there best to beat the opposition.

This is funny cause here is a story one of my friends told me :

So 3 of my friends were at some arcade down town, when some guy, surrounded by his "gang" decides to pick on my 6'1" 200lbs friend. So they start pushing him and stuff, one of our buddies jump in to defend him...while the 3rd friend (like 300 pounds too!) totally WALKS AWAY! Now the fight didn't escalate more than that, happily.

Later when they questioned our mate who walked away, he answered : "Hey, it wasn't MY problem!" .... Talk about a real "friend". Kinda loss a little respect for him after that.

Well, it would depend on the situation for me. If it was just one on one between a friend of mine and some other guy, with no weapons involved, just two guys settling thier differences, then I wouldn't jump in. Even if my friend is losing. Now, if things started to get out of hand, and one was really starting to seriously injure another ( it doesn't matter who) then I see it as my responsibility to seperate them before one does something they may later regret.

The greatest clarity is profound silence.

I have friends that would jump in immediately and friends who would probably run the opposite direction and try to get help. I hang around a lot of different types of people, and frankly, it'd be better for some of them to not get directly involved.

...I hope I don't have any friends that would just walk away and say "it wasn't my problem."

I have to take an unpopular stance on this one. I'd have to say the way Ash handled the situation is exemplary. Here's my opinion: a good friend would never put his other friends in a position where they had to jump in and stick up for him. Frist off, you put yourself at a SEVERE tactical disadvantage when you depend on others to "get your back". To pick a fight with multiple people is just IGNANT (ignorant) to be honest. One on one, sure. But you got to take this mentality: some of your "friends" might not be as confident as you in their fighting abilities. This might cause them to back off, run, or worse yet, get their a##es handed to them in a brawl. Those people aren't much good to you. Some of your friends might also not want to get involved in any potential legal ramifications. A big brawl, the cops come out, people go to jail. I don't care how good a friend I had, I ain't spending a night behind bars for him. To defend a family member, well that's another story. Lastly, I have no respect for a friend who runs his mouth, incites a fight, and EXPECTS his "buddies" to back him. If you wanna run your yap, then you-and you alone- need to evaluate the situation and decide whether or not you can handle it ALONE. Don't EXPECT your friends to get busted up on account of your attitutude. Ash did the right thing. Now if the other group had sucker punched him while he was making amends, a few of his mates should have jumped in to try to separate them. That would have been a self defense situation that warranted some intervention. But if Ash started running his mouth  , then his friends really have no duty to get involved, other than the morality issue involved.

Well, I'm sure they wouldn't stand there and leave me to fend for myself, but I have 5 really close friends and one best friends who I am joined to the hip with, but only my one best friend cares that I'm in Karate. The other four were like "yeah, uh, cool" but my best friend comes to all my tournaments and came to the hospital....best buddies, she's a cool person.

My friends know that I can fight on my own

But I've also never been confronted by an attacker, let alone while with my friends

I think my friends would jump in only if they saw me getting beat
