Titanic Posted January 12, 2002 Posted January 12, 2002 Hi, I am thinking about starting kickboxing but I was just wondering...how do you get from one belt color to the other??
ramcalgary Posted January 12, 2002 Posted January 12, 2002 Most kickboxing schools do not use the belt system. The ranking system is not used. It iis up to the instructors to tell you what level you are at. It is a sport not an art. kicker Posted January 12, 2002 Posted January 12, 2002 well We do have belt teating and you have to go at a time that the instructure says so that you can test for the next belt when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
Prodigy-Child Posted January 13, 2002 Posted January 13, 2002 alot of kickboxing schools do not use ranking systems...........its better that way i feel! You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!-Chris Rock
striking_cobra Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 that's interesting i didn't know kickboxing didn't use belts...are thai boxers ranked by a "belt" type system? " The art of Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human character." Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo

Arts_not_Brutality Posted April 27, 2002 Posted April 27, 2002 Kicker, what are the requirments for your advancement for each belt?
kicker Posted April 27, 2002 Posted April 27, 2002 Well Brutality, to tell you the truth I havent memorized them and not exactly sure what you have to know for each one to go to the next belt. Well it depends on what your doing like boxing or Muay Thai or Kickboxing. Plus on your trainer he is the one that well let you pass and he probably well have a chart or something in which he is looking for what you have to know. You could ask your trainer for what you have to know to pass each test Oh if you want me to tell you a breif description of each i think i could. But here is our ranking system white belt white/yellow belt yellow belt yellow/green belt green belt green/blue belt blue belt blue/brown belt brown belt brown/black belt black belt. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
ad Posted April 27, 2002 Posted April 27, 2002 . It is a sport not an art. [ This Message was edited by: ramcalgary on 2002-01-11 21:13 ] i completely disagree, i believe kickboxing is a martial art, just like boxing or wrestling for that matter, kickboxing aids you and helps you in self defense, thus making it a martial ART Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
Jack Posted April 28, 2002 Posted April 28, 2002 Titanic - to sum it up, a lot of boxing/kickboxing/muay thai schools will not operate by a belt system, but some will. You will find after a while studying that belts do not matter anyway, and what does matter is your own skill and experience. Ad, I find classifying something as a martial art or not can be more tricky than expected. The word martial means combat or war. Thus training in any fighting system is training in a martial style. However, the meaning of art can be confused - is the art simply in practicing and perfecting technique, or must a style have certain aspects to be considered an 'art'? Personally, I think Kickboxing can qualify as a martial art, it revolves largely around sport but also self defence - its combat orientated and if you consider it an art or not is up to the person. All very confusing. JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
