Iron Arahat
Quote from http://www.fighting.net: "Absolutely every serious altercation that I ever saw Bruce Lee in, he would execute a straight blast to his opponent."..."The straight blast was, and still is the single most important thing to do in a fight. It is safe to say that if we were to search the world for the best Karate man, the best Gung-fu man, the best Aikido man, the best Thai boxer, the best grappler (and so on), you can bet that none of these fighters have ever practiced their art RUNNING BACKWARDS!" I'm curious what you guys think... Jack
As in, practicing moves whilst running backwards, or practicing moves in reverse order? JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
Joecooke007
I may be extremely misinformed but I have never even heard of the straight blast and from this description I can't exactly tell what the haeck the straight blast is. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
Iron Arahat
The straight blast is simply a series of punches in succession, that are targeted at the centerline of the opponent from face to chest height. A concept borrowed from Wing Chun... Joecooke007
ok now I see. That straight blast sounds very effective if you have quick munches and if they don't expect any attack like that. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
shotochem
I agree it can be very effective to blitz your opponent in such a manner. The only thing is that you have to be faster than him. Ive tried to strait blitz other karateka and a few of them had me for lunch. They just side stepped and countered. I guess Ill have to be quicker next time. It is not as effective on someone much larger than you. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
Iron Arahat
I feel they are a little over zealous in their philosophy. I had an instructor tell me that utilizing this technique, that they can beat virtually anyone. The guy wanted to run seminars out of my school, and refer me to read the info on the website. He wanted $100 per head per day. I just laughed and said I'd think about it. SaiFightsMS
Shotochem as with any technique the more you practice it the better it will serve you. The only way to acquire more speed is to practice.
