Type_0 Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 i was wonder if it is posible to use a sword as one weapon(of course) and the sheath(if metal or hard wood) as another. and if so any sites would be helpful. it dosent matter what style of sword, just not super long.
ncole_91 Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I dont see why it wouldn't be possible, i dont know any websites though, sorry
battousai16 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 i had a form where you did some strikes with the sheath... i really don't know what to tell you. don't have any websites, but yeah, it's been done. Type_0 Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 if i dident make it clear im looking for sites for buying swords(not for the form, that i can come up with myself)
battousai16 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 oh, then put "paul chen" into google. he makes a lot of good swords for beginners at decent prices. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Shito Ryu Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I personaly wouldn't use the scabberd as my opposite hads weapon. Only because it is very awkward to use a katana one handed. For me at least, maybe once you get strong enough to easily use it one handed, but I wouldn't bother to use the scabbard at all. I would just buy a wakizashi for my other weapon. Here are some nice looking Katana's http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZpaartist86QQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsosortorderZ1QQsosortpropertyZ1 And if you don't like Ebay then, try this site.... https://www.martialartssupermarket.com that has some nice paul cehn stuff for reasonable prices. Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate....
battousai16 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 um... generally you strike with the scabbard when you're unsheathing... y'know, to plan for if they block your first cut. that way, you're a step ahead of the game. one handed isn't so awkward once you get used to it, you just have to learn to get used to the weight shifts. but i certainly wouldn't do it. a bit less control. Only because it is very awkward to use a katana one handed. Are we only discussing Katana? If so, I'd tend to agree... the control you loose wielding the Katana one-handed (as opposed to two) is not sufficiently offset (IMO) by the scabbard. https://www.clearsilat.com
