SoonerJohn
It seems it has become the norm now for people I train with to come into training while having a cold. I don't like it, but I don't feel its my place to say anything either. Last year I got a cold from someone during training and had to miss a week. I don't want it to happen this year. So far this year several people have actually been so sick they were coughing quite consistently. I'd admire their dedication, but don't want to get infected. Any suggestions? ramymensa
Maybe talk to the guy "upstairs" .. the instructor. I had times I wanted to go train although I was ill, and had to stay home for the sake of my coleagues. I know I would be quite mad if someone would caugh in front of me. So just talk to the instructor and he could say something like "we know it's the season for flu and cold. We would like to ask you to stay home until you are OK so that you won't have complications and your coleagues some need for medicine." A nicelly made announcement could help anyone learn how things should be done. My opinion World Shotokan Karate
Master Jules
Dedication is one thing....and admirable at that.....but when your dedication creates a health problem for someone else.....thats just plain old inconsiderate......either wear a surgical mask and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before getting on the mat.....or just stay home and train by yourself at home..... ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Jinxx0r
When you're sick, it's actually a really bad time to train. If you tax your body too much you will make yourself worse! Some good advice already, talk to your instructor as I'm sure he/she doesn't want to be sick either. I don't go to my class when I'm sick... like other said, it's just inconsiderate to others to pass your germs along. Shorin Ryuu
If anything, those that are sick can just sit off to the side and watch. There is a lot to learn by just watching a class. krunchyfrogg
I know people who train with colds, but I personally hate doing it. I feel like crap, and the last thing I want to do is work hard and possibly get others sick. It's just like going in to work with a cold. Sure, it's admirable that you're so dedicated, but you're really doing more harm than good b/c you're going to give other people a cold. White Warlock
talking to the instructor is always a good route, but if you don't feel that would be effective, just be blunt, and talk to the offenders straight off. I agree, it's inconsiderate. My gf recently had a cold, didn't tell me, and then kissed me. I was so mad at her when i she later told me she had a cold. Of course, now i'm sick. Yeah, lots of people act in inconsiderate ways. It's your responsibility to care for your own health. Don't rely on the instructor, but by all means see if you can get the instructor to assist in this. As i said, however, in the end it all boils down to 'your' responsibility to care for your own health, seeing as nobody else seems to give a rat's behind. ncole_91
You can tell your instructor, or just talk nicely to the people about staying home or watching class. Maybe get some other people that feel the same way, that I am sure there are some people, then you can all go to your instructor and talk to him, or even the person. Nick_UKWC
When I'm ill I go, but I don't take part, just watch. I think talking to your instructor is the best option here. He can just say 'I know there are a lot of colds going about at the moment so if you feel under the weather I'd just ask you to sit out for a few lessons because obviously we don't want anyone else getting ill' or something to that effect.
