Nilla Ice Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 1) The book is called Kuk Sool Hapkido. That, at least, was it's original title. 2) It was intended to be the text book for Kuk Sool Won. Why it isn't, I'm not really sure only to say that this book caused a falling out between Kuk Sa Nym and He-young Kimm. It appears that Kimm did this book for himself, instead of for the WKSA. 3) It is a complete list of all techniques to Kwang Ja Nym in KSW. It is not in the correct order, though. 4) I'm pretty sure you can buy BB magazine or TKD times and still find ads for KSHapkido testbook along with the other HanMuDo textbook. 5) You will find pictures of KSW students in their older KSW uniforms and then you will also see pictures of "hapkido" students in "hapkido" uniforms. This leads me to believe that Kimm had alterior motives behind the book, therefore making me believe bullet number 2 is true. 6) This book is a valuable addition to any Korean jointlocking/throwing student's library. I have very reliable sources... Found Kuk Sool and stopped looking!
ImaJayhawk Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 1) The book is called Kuk Sool Hapkido. That, at least, was it's original title. The Kuk-Sool Hapkido Reference Manual I believe was the precursor to the Kuk Sool book later published by He-Young Kimm. It was available with a training film at the National Seminar of Korean Kuk-Sool Hapkido, which was cosponsored by the American Hapkido Association. Seminar instructors are listed as: “Grandmaster In Hyuk Su, 9th Dan, Master Lee H. Park 7th Dan, Master He-Young Kimm 7th Dan, and Master Young El Park “
Nilla Ice Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 This book is pretty complete in terms of curriculum. It's a stupid idea to place a whole curriculum like that in one book from a business stand point. Found Kuk Sool and stopped looking!
KoreanTiger30 Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I found the book very helpful. But I have been studying Hapkido for some time so its easier to follow the pictures. However Im not sure about the change in Kuk Sool Won Curriculum since the 80s. I dont study Kuk Sool Won but would like to one dy if a school ever opened up in my area. However I enjoyed the book as a reference and would recommend it as so. I hear the Kuk Sool Won authorized textbooks are bette rin detail though.
