nickb123 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Alright I'm setting you guys a challenge/scavenger hunt type thing. Your mission is to find the best possible bo staffs on the market. I want something quite thin in diameter but still very durable and strong. No price limit, we're just after the BEST here On your marks, get set, GO!
steveb Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Hey lazy, do your own search! Seriously there are several threads on here that name sources for bo's Res firma, mitescere nescit
Sauzin Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Thin and durable huh? Well how thin? And while you’re at it how durable? A long metal rod would fit your description but it make a terrible bo in my opinion. You need enough width to get a good grip on the bo, especially in the center. You want a good bo? Take a look at this topic: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=15016 and order yourself something made out of purpleheart, high grade hickory, or maccassar ebony. Get it laminated if you want even more stregth and don't mind sacrificing a little natural feel. You'll pay between $80 to $300 plus shipping. Read some of the more recent threads and make sure you know what you want before you drop a fortune on it. Or tell us what you're using it for and what style you are training in or who you are training under and perhaps we can give you some suggestions for what you need. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
battousai16 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 this thread reminds me of an assignment my english teacher made us do... she made us write essays on recumbant bicycles... what to look for, where's best, etc... y'know, to "prepare us for buying items in the real world". then she happened to run out and by a recumbant bycycle... hmmmmm... "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
nickb123 Posted November 17, 2004 Author Posted November 17, 2004 lol yeah you've figured me out, I'm just lazy. I was just wondering what was the best in bo. Like Agena is arguably the best sai, I was just thinking if there was a 'best' for bo. Guess its hard to judge
