Most FMA's do a lot of locks and standup grappling. Some also do Fillipino grappling, which has a lot of takedowns and some groundwork. They obviously also learn to defend what they are trying to do to each other. Japanese occupation also brought JMA's, and many FMA's adopted karate, Judo, Jiu-jitsu, and other JMA's in part or whole. So it really depends on the system and the school as to what or how much variety, including grappling, you get.
