What do you think of the idea of taking up BJJ as additional training with my WC to get more proficient on the ground.Do you think the styles ad up well?

In JKD concepts, you basically have both systems in it,including others. You learn ground fighting and the some jkd modified WC moves(straight blast, the way you stand in trapping, etc)

You don't need to add anything to your WC it is already there. The biggest difference is your root to the ground is very different. Get down on the ground with WC principles in hand and explore. Think of your techniques in terms of principles as well. You may be amazed at what you find.

... yourself in a headlock?!?

I'm sorry, but theory does not make up for practice. Wing chun simply doesn't 'practice' ground techniques to the degree that bjj does. Also, bjj goes far more indepth into such than wing chun does.

While bjj wouldn't necessary compliment wing chun, it would open up your repertiore. I think the hard part would be in 'adjusting' to the different concepts presented, but being rigid is never a good thing... so welcome the differences.

Exactly so get down on the ground practice with WC you don't need to adopt BJJ becuase the principles of groundfighting are there you just have to practice it. Most WC people ignore it but through careful exploration and practice you can find what is needed.

I think adding some BJJ training would work wonders for you. I think once a martial artist has their ground foundation built and has an understanding of the basics then venturing out and adding to your training is awsome. For you already training in a more stand up art, adding the ground work is going to only make you a more well rounded person.

Good Luck

That is exactly what our school does. BJJ blends in well with the clinch and take down aspects of WC.

We have WC class that teach WC including takedowns. Usually the takedowns end in a knee ride, or similiar position.

Our BJJ class teach BJJ for competitions/no punching as well as sometimes teach 'ground and pound' or no gi fighting.

I have found that while BJJ and WC are very different there is an effective way of training both together.

Thanks for the Answers.

Well aslong as it does not stand in way of my Wing Chun I will try it out.I think it will give me a great advantage if I get to know more of the techniques and get more indepth experience of the way grapplers think and work.
