isshinryu5toforever Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 The swords are probably folded steel. About steel, stainless is relatively week yes. However, there are different grades of steel. Something like 1080, may work fairly well. The steel they use in cheaply made swords is 440 or 420. It won't hold an edge, and is fairly brittle. The steel they use in REAL swords is much higher grade and can withstand blade to blade contact even though that is never supposed to occur. He who knows others is wise. mindsedgeblade Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 About the Rattan... The Weapons class I recently joined uses almost eclusively rattan bos- sorry, not sure how they're treated, but they hold up pretty well. Longer Staffs and Spears are wax- or boxwood. They feel about the same weight, but rattan are larger diameter (and more even end-to-end). The best a man can hope foris, over the course of his lifetime,to change for the better.
