47MartialMan Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Bruce Lee was my influence. He was alive when I had started.
longarm25 Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 For me it more about mastery of self PhilRyu Kyu Christian Karate Federation"Do not be dependent on others for your improvement. Pay respect to God and Buddhabut do not reley on them." Musashi
47MartialMan Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 But mastery of self can be found in any other activity.
kle1n Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 To become a better person. For me and for others. Be everything. Be nothing.
nfl2k2 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Honestly, I just like the idea of being able to defend myself if I would ever need to. Not only that, but martial arts also provide a way of keeping in shape, plus I get training for a very very cheap price.
Jinxx0r Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I started so I would have some other activity to do other than working out because it got boring... now I workout so I can be better at MA. I like the discipline and learning new techniques... There is always something new to learn or improve. "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilites, but in the expert's there are few."
dippedappe Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I started because I saw many Jackie Chan movies then. I wanted to be just like him. It looked so cool and all that. Later I began to look up to Bruce Lee. I study it because its an art. All that with becoming a better fighter, is just a bonus that I dont really care about.
Flying Tiger Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Originally my parents enrolled me into a martial arts class to boost self-confidence and get som exercise ( I used to be extremely out of shape). After that I just continued it for the pleasure of it. I love sparring, being able to throw a side kick at head level without warming up, and knowing that if I got into a scrape, I'd at least get a couple of good hits in before I went down. The greatest clarity is profound silence.
Chirath Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I started because my friends encouraged me to. A student in my year is the son of my sensei and he got my friends to join. It was really fun and I carried on. It was only until I got confronted by a gang of youths who tried to mug me and assaulted me, did I really start working on getting rid of my fear and intensifing my training. In some ways I owe them as they opened my eyes. But if I ever met them again, I would beat the (S word) out of a few of them before having to leg it.
