gojuchad Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 does anyone know the exact martial arts that goju is made up of. I know that Miagi trained naha te in Okinawa then traveled to China where he trained kung fu. I have been told that he trained white crane and southern chinese boxing, does anyone know the answer. Sasori_Te Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I've read pretty much the same. Miyagi, Chojun traveled to China initially from 1904 - 1908 and studied the Southern Crane style. He went back several times after that and studied with other systems. It seems I heard somewhere that he studied black tiger, but I could be completely wrong about that. I might have him mixed up with someone else. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
gojuchad Posted October 28, 2004 Author Posted October 28, 2004 thank you very much i will look into that. I have never heard that but much of what he trained seems to be a mystery so who knows? just thought i would ask some fellow martial artists. Thank you Draw close to god, and god will draw close to you. James 4:8
Master Jules Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Goju has elements of White Crane, Pakua, Shaolin Chin Na, Hsing I, Shaolin Kempo Boxing.......The Traditional Goju warmup is Yoga based, and lets not forget all of the internal Chi Gung excersises as well..... ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Zhong Gau Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 um, which style of goju are you referring to? I think there are three main goju styles. one of which i've seen looks a lot like choy li fut but wheather its hung gar, hung fot or wah lum, i dunno. it could also be sil lum or fut gar families styles orientated. all five of these probably look the same to the untrained or the moderately trained Nippon. does anybody know when the drunken styles emmigrated to okinawa? i'd say that'd be the best bet on the origens of goju. Ah! Mantis Grasshopper, i think you would do very nicely on a bowl of rice!
