Karateka Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Death is irrelevant, it is life and how we live it, that matters in the end. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
YODA Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Howdy From a martial artists viewpoint the important question is not... "Are you afraid to die?" but is... "Are you prepared to die?" I fear death. I fear the effect it would have on my Children. But I would die to protect them - no doubt about that! Trojin Posted February 2, 2002 Posted February 2, 2002 My life would be completely fulfilled if i could risk or give the Ultimate Sacrifice for my country's safety. Now water can flow or creep or drip - or crash!Be water, my friend.Bruce Lee.
KickChick Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 I was trying to figure out just where to post this ... but right here is good because actually it makes one think about what truly is important in one's life and to have no regrets when you do die. Is The Jar Full? A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. Whenclass began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks right to the top, rocks about 2" diameter. He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them in to the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. The students laughed. He asked his students again if the jar was full? They agreed that yes, it was. The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. "Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things in life that matter, but on smaller scale. The pebbles represent things like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff. If you put the sand or the pebbles into the jar first, there is no room for the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, material things, you will never have room for the things that are truly most important. Pay attention to the things that are critical in your life. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal. "Take care of the rocks first-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just pebbles!
YODA Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 ........... and then the prof said - "So, NOW is the jar full, as it has the rocks, pebbles AND the sand?" "Yes!" was the reply from the students. So next the prof picked up a bottle of beer and poured it in - of course, the beer filled up the small voids left between the grains of sand. The moral of this tale is... No matter how full your life is - there's always room for a beer. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-10 13:47 ] YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
