SaiFightsMS Posted January 4, 2002 Posted January 4, 2002 At one time in my life I was afraid to live. I had a very poor quality to my life. Martial arts was one of the most important factors in restoring quality to my life. I may not be afraid to die but I am afraid of returning to an existance with a poor quality of life.
Joecooke007 Posted January 4, 2002 Posted January 4, 2002 It all depends. If I knew that someone was trying to kill me I would be scared. I would never be able to kill myself but if it was a natural death or a sword to the neck I would not be afraid cause there's no way out. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
ramcalgary Posted January 4, 2002 Posted January 4, 2002 :karate:Death is a given. To fear death is silly to prepare for death is another matter.Writing a will, getting life insurance, and living life to the fullest are important. To rush into death is a waste of life.Do not fear death embrace it as something that will eventually happen to everyone. Honor is the most important thing a man has once you lose it it is gone forever
Ahazmaksya Posted January 5, 2002 Author Posted January 5, 2002 I am much, much more afraid of an immediate family member dieing, than me dieing myself.
TKD_McGee Posted January 9, 2002 Posted January 9, 2002 I think people with no religon fear dead at a great rate because they don't know anything about the afterlife. Religons teach people about the afterlife, this gives them reassurance. Do unto others, as they done to you.
username237 Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 I am afraid of death, i mean no-one knows the truth about what happens, i mean is there an afterlife or what.I think you just have to rely on your beliefs to stop yourself from being afraid. Unfortunately i havent got a clue what i believe so tkd ur right! i agree with the 2nd last post also, i mean at the end of the day if you lose a family member or someone close to you, you lose a big part of your life which cannot be replaced, which is scarier than anything.
Angus Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 I'm terrified of dying. I don't want to, and if i could find a way to live forever then damnit i would. I learn to defend myself so i can live. But then again, i would swap my life for someone else's. If someone i cared for or some innocent person was in danger then i guess i'd eventually suck up enough courage to try and help the person out. I am honestly a genuinely frightened at the concept of death. But maybe if i go some place after i die then it wouldn't be so bad. I could initiate a long and boring discussion about eternity and religion from this but think i might just leave it at that. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

People who have strong religious beliefs may not fear death because they think they are going to a better place. People, myself one of them, with no religious beliefs also have no reason to fear death because after all when you are dead that's it and you won't know any more about it. It's the people who aren't convinced either way who have most to fear because fear of the unknown is often the greatest fear of all.
Jack Posted January 11, 2002 Posted January 11, 2002 Interesting discussion going on here. TKD, I tink plenty of people with no religion do not fear death. Personally, I'm atheist (no religion) true I fear death, but only because I want to have things to do, places to go etc. etc. Like Angus, I would swap my life for a loved one's if such a situation with a dilemna like that arrived. To me, there is no afterlife. You live your life, and then you're gone. So don't waste your life, live it to its maximun potential. I won't try and find comfort in a religious belief for an afterlife because then it may allow me to slack up and not be so active in my life, and make me stop persuing my dreams believing there is a better place after life. This is just my opinion on the afterlife, I am in no way meaning to be offencive or thrust my views on anyone else here JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
