fallen_milkman Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I believe Mitch Hedberg has once again put my thoughts into the best possible wording (I sometimes wonder if he was stealing them).I'm not gunna turn down an apple, just because it will eventually be a core. No apple can be eaten forever, and we must die someday. To worry about it is silly, to worry about it so much that we miss out on the fun aspects of life is even sillier. Death is inevitable. All we can do is use the time we have. 36 styles of danger
Oahngoji Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Our fates are already determined. When it is time for me to leave, I will anticipate it. There is nothing we can do anyway.....
Soo Min Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 From an early age I had (and still have) no concept of fear of death. It just...doesn't bother me. It's difficult to explain. I suppose it's because I heavily believe in some type of afterlife.
Shui Tora Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I'm not afraid to die... There comes a point in our lives when we die. We can not stop it, so we have to accept the fact that eventually we will die. There really is no point in thinking that something is going to happen to you, of course it will; but you cannot anticipate when it'll happen; that is the fun of it! Here's a quote from Bushido Shoshinshu by Taira Shigesuke, Code of the Samurai, and they sum the view of death pretty well;... if you lose composure on the brink of death and die in an unseemly manner, your previous good conduct will all be in vain... if he has the misfortune to lose in a duel... on being asked his name by the enemy; he identifies himself and hands his head over with no sign of flinching. Considering death in this light; one should prepare himself mentally; seeing that he can leave his life without regret. If you fight death, you spoil your one last hour, showing that you did not keep death in your mind at all times...That is what I think, and agree with! To know the road ahead; ask those coming back... ~ Chinese Proverb" The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants. " ~ Master Funakoshi
patusai Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I am afraid that I have not lived my life the way that I should have when I meet God. I try but that does not mean that I have succeeded or, frankly, even know what is expected. Although religions tell you what is expected a lot could have been lost in tranlations. I am not afraid to to die but of what I may have waiting for me afterwards "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
lordtariel Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 All sane people are in some way afraid to die. It's an instinctual thing that's built in. The question is are you able to control that fear to a point that you would be willing to die for a reason? To that the answer is yes. I would willingly die to protect a loved one. savedbygrace Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Depends on what you believe will happen to you when you dieMathew 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. As for me? NopeJohn 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has (already possesses, past tense) eternal life and will NOT BE CONDEMNED; he has (past tense) CROSSED OVER from death to life. You see. If its not true, it doesnt matter, but what if it is true??Ohhhh thats going to upset some!! I agree with you my friend...... "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
bushido_man96 Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 I try not to worry about dieing too much. "Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back." Quoted from Gladiator, and I love it.One thing I don't believe in is fate, destiny, or that our time is already decided for us. I believe that I am in control of what I do, and I don't believe that I have a scheduled time to move on. I believe that I can control my factors as far as health and being always aware of what is going on around me, and that by making good decisions, I can give myself the best chance for living a long and healthy life.If I was staring at death, gun pointed at me or something, I would probably by scared, but don't know. A lot of things can cause fear, and death is just another one. I am not trying to be tough, I am just trying to realisticly prepare myself, I guess.Hard topic to discuss. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
alsey Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 i like to think that i am not. when i think about death i don't think of it as a bad thing, something that will happen and hopefully i will be able to embrace when the time comes. i'm sure though there is still subconcious fear of it in me though.i have already faced death in a way already, as many who have used entheogenic drugs have. i won't say any more on that because i don't know how moderators will react to me posting about drug use. but basically i am confident that i have experienced something almost identical to death. i believe i know how to let go of my ego and accept death, but i may be wrong. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
savedbygrace Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 In a sense I dont want to leave my family, but no I'm not. I know the hands that my faith and assurance rests in... "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
