47MartialMan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Yeah, why is Judo still in the "games'?
AngelaG Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Yeah, why is Judo still in the "games'? I don't understand what you mean? Why shouldn't judo be in the games? 47MartialMan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 No, I didnt mean that Judo should no longer be in it, I mean why is it still there? Also, if they are going to allow judo, why not continue with TKD? Any articles, news, links on them both in that relation?

Misallocated funds etc. Too much controversy is not good for the status of the games. Plus I don't think it has that much popularity. 47MartialMan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 (edited) It is hard to come to a understanding. People interpret, or mis-interpret certain things. Sometimes I will post a statement that I heard somewhere else, reversing the role. It gives me great reply/responses, but I have to be careful that I do not desire it to become heated. Most times, I post by merely thinking aloud, and to see what others feel. Edited November 18, 2004 by 47MartialMan
Ottman Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I hadn't heard about the controversey over TKD in the olympics. Any references? I'd like to read up on it. Measuring on how hard it is to find a decent TKD school in the states that hasn't been reduced to being a business before being a TKD school (I hate to use the term 'mcdojang' but there are alot of them around my area) i wouldn't be too surprised about some scandal breaking out. It's a shame, but I can't even give my own style the benefit of the doubt here. Tae Kwon Do - 3rd Dan, InstructorBrazilian Ju Jitsu - Purple Belt, Level 1 Instructor
AngelaG Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I'll ask the people I was chatting to about it where they got their information from. Tokonkai Karate-do Instructorhttp://www.karateresource.com Kata, Bunkai, Articles, Reviews, History, Uncovering the Myths, Discussion Forum
Treebranch Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Shotokan and Kodokan karate are what I understand to be the more effective of the karates out there. TKD is a sport and an over saturated one at that. Anyone can be lethal, training or not. The Saint Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 in my opinion tkd looses hands down to karate , as tkd is a lot of areial work which is no good on the streets but looks good on camera. As for karate which focus a lot of power / full contact / etc. ( 1 strike 1 kill ) Tradition TKD or Sport? We use our hands and excelleent ground techniques. An elbow or a knee on the streets... quite useful. It would be a good match between the Karate guy and a Traditional TKD guy. If it was sport TKD vs Karate..I'd say karate.
